Deciding what you actually need

You have a date. There will be people in the yard, and there are dogs who use that yard every day. The question is not whether it needs scooping, it is how much service the event actually justifies and when it should happen. Three or four decisions cover almost every event we handle around Topeka, and getting them right saves you money more often than it costs you any.

Before, after, or both?

Before only is the right answer for most back yard events. A graduation party, a birthday, a family reunion, a rehearsal dinner in the yard: guests are there for a few hours, and one thorough pass shortly before the date is all the situation requires. This is the cheapest version and the one we book most.

Before and after makes sense when dogs are guests rather than residents. A dog friendly gathering, a small adoption or fundraiser event, a company picnic where people bring pets: the yard will be in worse shape at the end than at the beginning, and the cleanup afterward is the part you will least want to do yourself the next morning.

A second pass the morning of is worth adding only if your dogs will still be using the yard between the first visit and the event. If they are going to be boarded or kept inside, skip it. We would rather tell you that than sell you a visit you do not need.

How far ahead should the visit be?

Close, but not too close. One to two days out is the sweet spot. Any earlier and your own dogs undo the work. Same-day is possible depending on our route that week, but Kansas weather is the argument for not cutting it fine. A late spring thunderstorm rolling through the afternoon before your event will soak the yard, and working saturated ground is slower and less effective than working it dry. Booking two days out gives everyone a buffer.

How many dogs, and how long has it been?

This is what actually determines the size of the job. One dog in a yard that has been maintained is a straightforward visit. Three dogs in a yard nobody has touched since the last thaw is a full cleanup that happens to have a party at the end of it, and it should be priced and scheduled as one. Be honest with us about the state of the yard when you book. It is much better than us arriving with the wrong amount of time allotted the day before your event.

Should you just do it yourself?

Sometimes, yes. If you have one dog, a yard you keep up with, and a free evening before the event, buy a decent scoop and spend twenty minutes. We are not going to pretend otherwise. Hire it out when any of these are true: the yard has gone a while, you have more than one dog, the event is large, you are hosting outdoors on grass where people will sit, or the week before the event is already full of everything else that hosting requires. The last one is the real reason most people call.

One event, or a standing arrangement?

If this is a single occasion, book the one-time visit and be done. But some customers discover after the first one that the reason they scrambled is that the yard was never being maintained in the first place.

Here is the plain arithmetic. A one-time cleanup starts at $45. Weekly service for one dog starts at $55 a month, which covers roughly four visits, and every other week starts at $50 a month. If you host more than a couple of times a season, or if you have already called for two rescue cleanups this year, the recurring service is the cheaper path and your yard is usable on every other weekend too, not just the ones with a date attached.

Venues, event spaces, and community associations that host regularly are a different case again. Those properties are usually better served by scheduled service around the calendar rather than one-off bookings, and we can build that around your event dates.

What the visit involves
